Amazing Grilled Cheese

Just because it’s hot outside and the sun is cooking your skin doesn’t mean you should stop cooking hot meals for yourself.  Here’s a quick and easy recipe for an indulgent Grilled Cheese that’s not your average sandwich.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 Slices of your favorite bread
    • pictured: Italian Round
  • Butter, softened
  • At least 2 types of cheese, 2-3 slices of each type
    • pictured: Muenster & White American
  • Fresh tomato, sliced
  • Basil leaves
  • Garlic, 1 Clove, crushed*
  • Olive Oil, 1 Tbsp

Stove Top Preparation:

  1. Generously spread butter on both sides of each piece of bread.  Set aside.
  2. Pour olive oil into large skillet, set heat on Medium.
  3. Once oil is heated, add garlic, simmer until golden brown
    1. The garlic can now be removed from the pan
    2. This process unleashes the garlic flavor into the oil
  4. Place both pieces of bread onto skillet, cook approximately 3 minutes each side or until bread begins to brown
  5. On either slice of bread, layer cheese, tomato slices, basil, and more cheese
  6. Place the other bread slice on top to create sandwich form
  7. Cook each side of sandwich approximately 3-5 minutes each, or until golden brown
  8. Remove from heat and enjoy!

If you’re preparing this for guests you can slice the bread in half from both sides, cutting through the tomato, but leaving a single layer of cheese intact.  Then separate both halves with a hinging motion so as to leave a gooey, stretchy layer of cheese peeking out.

*Easy garlic clove preparation trick:

Garlic is sticky.  It’s quite difficult to skin and smash a garlic clove properly without getting poo all over your hands.  The skin likes to stick to the tender meat of the clove and makes hand peeling quite the core; however with this simple trick you can have a fresh clove of garlic skinned and ready to cook with in 10 seconds.

  1. Break a single clove off your garlic bulb, removing any dry and loose skin
  2. Using a knife, slice off both top and bottom of clove
  3. Place clove in microwave for 4-5 seconds (careful, it gets hot quick)
  4. Skin will now simply fall off
  5. With a large knife lay the blade horizontally against clove, covering with your palm, and firmly press down to smash
  6. With a quick rocking motion, dice the crushed garlic into small bits

Now you know the trick to preparing garlic quickly!  But remember, with great power comes great responsibility.  Use this knowledge for good and do not, under any circumstance, use it to harm another person.  I do not condone violence through garlic.

Additional Tips for Inducing Cardiac Arrest:

Fry up some Bacon in your skillet, then substitute olive oil for the bacon grease.  Finally, place the bacon along with your tomato and a piece of lettuce or two (for aesthetic value, of course).
